A series of “new” theories of imperialism by the contemporary Western left reflect the new circumstances and characteristics of capitalist globalization. The “old” theories of imperialism mainly refer to those by theorists of the Second International, such as the theories of financial capital, of capital accumulation and of ultra-imperialism, which have many limitations. The representative theorists of the “new” imperialism include David Harvey, Antonio Negri, Michael Hart and Allen Wood. They inherited to a certain extent the “old” anti-imperialist critical paradigm of the Second International, but the current capitalist chaos has exposed the in adequacy of their theories. The characteristics of the “old” paradigm in the “new” theories of imperialism prompt us to rethink the contemporary value of Lenin’s “theory of imperialism” . On the basis of fully inheriting the ideological legacy of Marx and Lenin, we should look forward to a “new” critical paradigm of imperialism in the light of the current great practice of Chinese modernization.
