In the early period of New China, it was urgent for the CPC to vigorously push forward cultural construction in order to improve the intellectual and cultural literacy of the people and resist the continual infiltration of old feudalist and Western capitalist ideology, when the Party was restoring and developing the national economy and maintaining social order and stability. During this period, the CPC achieved good results through carrying out a series of practical explorations in the areas of Marxist publicity and education, ideological reform, reform of the old cultural and educational system, literacy campaigns, and the implementation of the “Double Hundred” policy. The CPC’s leading cultural construction in the early years of New China has generated a wealth of valuable experience, and they have important implications for constructing socialist culture with Chinese characteristics in the new era.
