Zhang Bo：An Analysis of the Relationship between the Spiritual Characteristics and Development Pattern of Chinese Civilization

Abstract: In its long history, the Chinese civilization has formed the spiritual characteristics and development pattern of emphasizing benevolence, valuing the people, upholding integrity, advocating justice and harmony, and seeking consensus on major issues. The spiritual characteristics are special attributes and contents that distinguish them from others, and fundamentally reveal the prescriptive nature of Chinese civilization; the development pattern is a specific pattern that combines the spiritual characteristics of Chinese civilization with other elements and conforms to the evolution trend and development law of Chinese civilization; and both of them embody the unique spiritual identity and cultural creation of the Chinese nation. Guided by the Marxist concept of civilization and grasping the development history of the Chinese civilization and the whole process of the CPC’s “two combinations” from the perspective of the great history concept, we can see that the spiritual characteristics and development pattern of the Chinese civilization present internal unity, logical mutual construction, and the common direction in practice. At the new historical starting point, clarifying the relationship between the two is helpful to consolidate the subjectivity of Chinese culture and shoulder the new cultural mission of building the modern civilization of the Chinese nation.
