Xiao Feng：The Boundary of Digital Labor-An Analysis Based on Marx’s View of Labor

Abstract: Marx’s view of labor reveals the common characteristics of different forms of human labor as productive, purposeful, working and sacred. As a new concept, digital labor reflects the new changes in the way of labor in the digital age, but this concept suffers from the problem of unclear boundaries and ambiguous semantics in the process of its introduction and dissemination, leading to the phenomenon of its generalization such as “surfing the internet is identical to laboring” or “all labor is digital labor”. According to Marx’s view of labor, the boundary of digital labor can be clarified to make it meet the common requirements of“labor”and have the technical characteristics of “digitalization”. The demarcation of these two boundaries can change the current situation of confusion in the definition of digital labor, make it a clear academic category and provide the necessary conceptual consensus for the advancement of related research.
