A unique Chinese path to modernization has been successfully opened up. It is not clear, however, whether it can lead the trend of the times and be copied. Why modernization is not westernization is still a problem that needs to be elucidated theoretically. In history, modernization begins with capitalism but succeeds with communism. The capitalist modernization is not real modernization and is doomed to be replaced by socialist modernization. It is historically inevitable that China chooses socialist modernization. China has rewritten the world history, grasping the times, leading the times and entering the world history. In order to adhere to the correct direction of socialist modernization, China must use the historical materialism to master the discourse power of modernization theory and cross the Western language trap which aims to restore the reputation of individualism with “enlightenment spirit” and “disenchantment of the world”.
