Zhang Yibing: Criticism and reflection on the issues of capitalist cities——An interpretation of Lefebvre’s The urban revolution
     Release time: 2025-05-29
In Henri Lefebvre’s view, urban space is not merely a physical space where different buildings and streets are placed. Rather, this newly emerging and exploding relational field space is a form of absent presence. It is also here that Lefebvre reiterates the need to update the methodology for observing social and historical phenomena in order to reshape metaphilosophy. In the face of the inverted urban mirage and fetishism of space that have emerged in contemporary capitalist urbanization practices, Lefebvre consciously views his falsifiable thoughts on urban space historically as a continuation of Marx’s criticism of capitalism in the industrial field.Revolutionizing the relational field of urban space will also be a new development of Marx’s original theory of social revolution.
