During the period of socialist construction and reform, China sticked to the independent development strategy, relied on ourselves most of the time and strived for foreign assistance just as supplementation, established a complete system of modern industry, paid much attention to national security and the security of national industry in economic construction, ensured the self-sufficiency of food and other strategic materials, and developed the economy and left some leeway according to the objective possibilities, thus reaching a high degree of self-dependence of the country and making China successfully survive all kinds of international crises that caused fatal impact to developing countries. Since socialism with Chinese characteristics entered a new era, the CPC Central Committee, with comrade Xi Jinping as the core, has enriched and developed the independent development strategy, sticked to the bottom line thinking, made overall planning on development and national security, formed the dual-circulation development pattern, and enhanced our self-reliance in technology, industry, market and strategic resource, so as to firmly grasp in hands the initiative of China’s development. In the new journey, China should go on sticking to the independent development strategy, greatly increase the country’s capacity for independent development, and effectively dissolve emergent extreme geopolitical risks.
