Jiang Jianguo:Influence on and Control of the Discursive Power of Media by US Interest Groups

    Because of the monopoly in and concentration of media, the discursive power of US media is to a great extent the extension of the discursive power of the interest groups to which they belong.The coexisting interest groups filter news,marginalize other cultures and views,and convey only their chosen contents to the public.In the Internet and information era,information is the important basis of power.The US interest groups,the real owners of mediatake the internet as a weapon to realize cultural hegemony and control communication through technological monopoly.  Thus,the so-called freedom press and journalistic professionalism in US media is nothing but an illusion that covers the media's real role as a channel of propaganda.
