Based on Marxism-Leninism and its sinicization,this paper analyzes the significance of the concept ofcommon prosperity in strengthening the socialist system in terms of the objectives and contents of socialistdevelopment.Comparing income distribution theories and actual gaps between the rich and the poor athome and abroad, it explicates the measuring criteria of common prosperity and polarization, clarifies sometheoretical points regarding the reduction of the gap in wealth and income,investigates the various gapsduring the process of China’s economic development and the roots of such gaps,and concludes with twoimportant approaches of promoting common prosperity.
