Abstract:The spread and development of Marxism in the period of May Fourth Movement is a profound, extensive and unprecedented revolution in ideology and culture, which gives the Chinese advanced elements and the masses of the people the scientific weapon of understanding and reforming the world, that is historical materialism, makes them understand the essence of capitalism profoundly and realize that socialist road is the only way for China, promotes the awakening and strengthening of national consciousness, and cultivate Chinese peoples broad vision. This still ongoing enlightenment affects the thought and social practice of the widest Chinese people, and is definitely the greatest enlightenment in Chinese history, which has great significance both to China and the world.
