Academy of Marxism

　　

　　As approved in the meeting of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee on May 19th, 2005, the former Institute of Marxism-Leninism and Mao Zedong Thought was restructured into the Academy of Marxism, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) on December 26th, 2005, one of the major supporting units of the Academic Division of Marxist Studies (one of the six academic divisions of CASS).

　　The major tasks of the Academy of Marxism are: to study Marxist classics and basic theories based on the experiences of reform and opening-up and modernization construction while holding high the great banner of socialism with Chinese characteristics; to study Chinese Marxism—Mao Zedong Thought and the theoretical systems of socialism with Chinese characteristics; to study the history of international communist movements; to study the contemporary world socialist movements and trends of thought.

　　The Academy of Marxism has five subordinate research departments, four editorial departments and other professional offices like the Office of Information Network. The five subordinate research departments are the Research Department of Marxist Theories, the Research Department of Adaptation of Marxism to the Conditions in China, the Research Department of the Development of Marxism, the Research Department of International Communist Movements and the Research Department of Overseas Marxism. The four editorial departments are the Editorial Department of Studies on Marxism, the Editorial Department of Marxism Digest, the Editorial Department of International Critical Thought and the Editorial Department of the Yearbook of Chinese Marxism Theory and Scientific Construction. The five research departments have 18 subordinating research offices, namely the Research Office of Marxism Basic Theories, the Research Office of Marx and Engels Thoughts, the Research Office of Lenin and Stalin Thoughts, the Research Office of Ideological and Political Education, the Research Office of Mao Zedong Thought, the Research Office of Theoretical Systems with Chinese Characteristics, the Research Office of Party History, the Research Office of Scientific Atheism, the Research Office of Development History of Marxism, the Research Office of Economic and Social Construction, the Research Office of Politics and International Strategies, the Research Office of Cultural and Ideological Construction, the Research Office of International Communist Movements, the Research Office of Contemporary World socialism, the Research Office of Contemporary Capitalism, the Research Office of Overseas Left-Wing Thought, the Research Office of Overseas Communist Party Theories and the Research Office of Western Marxism.

　　Professor Cheng Enfu: Dean of the Academy of Marxism of CASS, doctor supervisor, standing committee member and member of the presidium of academic divisions of CASS, director of Research Center of Theoretical System with Chinese Characteristics of CASS, director of the Office of Marxism Theoretical Research and Construction Projects of CASS, director of key discipline of Marxist basic theories of CASS, a winner of the State Council Special Allowance, deputy to the 11th National People’s Congress, Chairman of the World Association for Political Economy, and Chairman of the Chinese Research Society for Foreign Economics.

　　Researcher Deng Chundong: Secretary of the Party committee and vice dean of the Academy of Marxism of CASS since July 2012,full senior editor.Deng Chundong was born in October 1957.

　　Researcher Fan Jianxin: Vice dean of the Academy of Marxism of CASS since December 2011, with studies focusing on ideological theories and big current issues, former employee of the Social Science Center under the Ministry of Education, researcher and standing director of the Research Center of International Socialism of CASS, and standing director of the Association of History of People’s Republic of China.

　　Researcher Zhang Zuying: Vice dean of the Academy of Marxism of CASS, former employee of Tsinghua University and State Language Work Committee, vice head and general secretary of the Research Center of Neo-Confucianism in the Song and Ming Dynasties of CASS, an expert of the All-China Women’s Federation, focusing on the teaching and studies of social economy statistics, management and higher education management.

　　The Academy of Marxism of CASS has doctoral and master degree-granting rights in the first-level discipline of Marxism Theory. It owns a postdoctoral scientific research station of Marxism and recruits masters, doctors and post doctors of Marxist basic theory, Marxist development history, studies on the adaptation of Marxism to the conditions in China, scientific socialism and international communist movements and other disciplines. It also welcomes senior visiting scholars.

　　The Academy of Marxism of CASS combines together the academic studies, theoretical publicity and application of Marxism and actively exchanges and cooperates with related organizations and researchers both at home and abroad, to serve the cause of Chinese and world socialism.
