Han Qi hails from Yingcheng, Hubei Province. From 1999 to 2003, he completed his undergraduate studies at Wuhan University in the School of Public Administration. He pursued a master's degree in sociology at Peking University from 2003 to 2006, followed by a Ph.D. in Religious Studies in the Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies at Peking University from 2008 to 2012. In 2012, he joined the Research Center for Marxist Atheism at the Institute of Marxism, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, focusing his research on Marxist religious studies, Marxist atheism, and the sociology of religion.
