Academic Profile

He Xinyuan was born in October 1970, member of the CPC; Doctor of Laws, Researcher, PhD supervisor; Deputy Director of the Department of Sinicization of Marxism of the Academy of Marxism of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (taking charge of the work), Member of the Academic Committee of the Academy of Marxism. He is Chief Expert of the Innovation Project of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS), Secretary General of the “Think Tank on Marxist Theory Innovation” of CASS, Vice President of the Chinese Association of Atheism, Director of the “Think Tank on Xizang” of CASS, Invited Researcher of the Academy of Social Sciences of Xizang Autonomous Region, Professor at the University of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, and an evaluation expert of the National Social Science Fund and its late-stage funding projects. His research interests include sinicization of Marxism and contemporary China, and contemporary Xizang studies.

During 1999-2002 and 2002-2005, he studied consecutively in Jiangxi Normal University and Renmin University of China, majoring in Ideological and Political Education, and Scientific Socialism and the International Communist Movement, and obtained the degrees of Master of Laws and Doctor of Laws. He has been working in the Academy of Marxism of CASS since 2005, during which he was temporarily transferred to Office for Marxist Theory Research and Construction Project of Theory Bureau of Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee, and worked from 2007 to 2010 in the Academy of Social Sciences of Xizang Autonomous Region as a member of the fifth batch of cadres sent by the CPC Central Committee and the central government in support of Xizang.

He has published more than 100 article in academic journals and newspapers, including People’s Daily, Guangming Daily, Ethno-National Studies, Studies on Marxism, Studies on Mao Zedong and Deng Xiaoping Theories, Expanding Horizons, Socialism Studies, Foreign Theoretical Trends, Academic Forum, Red Flag Manuscript, Tibetan Studies, China Population, Resources and Environment, Journal of Petersburg University and so on. He has also published 9 academic monographs as the sole or first author.

China’s Road: A Different Road to Modernization. Fujian People’s Publishing House. 2024. It was selected in 2014 in the additional projects of “Publication planning for national key books, audio-visual and electronic publications for the Twelfth Five-Year Plan,” listed in the “Subject Guidelines for the Academic Works Translation Project of the National Social Science Fund of China” in the two consecutive years of 2015 and 2016, selected in the 100 books most valuable for recommendation in the 70 years since the founding of the new China, also approved in projects for its translation into Korean, Japanese and English, with the corresponding versions published in South Korea, Japan and the United States. It has played a good role in academic publicity in telling the international community about China’s road and China’s story and was awarded the Second Prize for Excellent Achievements by the Academy of Marxism of CASS.

It was listed as a key thematic book for studying and implementing the spirit of the 19th CPC National Congress, and selected for the launch of the 2018 Major Scientific Research Achievements of the Innovation Project of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences.
