Deng Chundong

  Deng Chundong, male, born in October 1957, is a researcher and former Party Secretary and President of the Academy of Marxism, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS). He is also a post-doctoral supervisor and advisor of doctoral students in the CASS program of “backbone for Marxism studies.” He served as a member of the 13th National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC). He received his BA degree from the Department of the History of the Communist Party of China (CPC) at the Renmin University of China in 1983, and MA degree on CPC history and party building from the same school in 1986. After graduation, he worked in a row at the Research Office of the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee, the Institute of Party Building of the Organization Department of the CPC Central Committee, and the Policy Research Office of the CPC Central Committee. In August 1988, he was appointed the deputy team leader of the Theoretical Research Unit at the Institute of Party Building of the Organization Department of the CPC Central Committee; in December 1991, he became a division-director level investigator at the Policy Research Office of the CPC Central Committee; and in May 1997, he became a vice-director level investigator at the Party Building Unit of the Policy Research Office of the CPC Central Committee, and Vice Director of the Information Studies Bureau of the same office. From April 2001 to April 2003, while serving as the Deputy Director of the Information Studies Bureau of the Policy Research Office of the CPC Central Committee, he served at a two-year temporary position as the Deputy Party Secretary of the CPC Guilin Municipal Committee in Guangxi, which was extended to November 2003 after he was promoted to director level investigator in April of the year. From November 2003 to September 2006, he officially served as the Deputy Party Secretary of the CPC Guilin Municipal Committee in Guangxi (at the level of full director). From September 2006 to November 2006, he was Deputy Party Secretary of the Standing Committee of the People’s Congress of Guilin Municipality (at the level of full director) in Guangxi, and from November 2006 to September 2007, served simultaneously as the managing Vice Director (at the level of full director). From September 2007 to July 2012, he served as the Party Secretary and Director at the Guangxi Press and Publication Bureau (Copyright Bureau). From July 2012 to October 2019, he served as the Party Secretary at the Academy of Marxism, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, during which he served simultaneously as the president and party secretary from June 2013 to October 2019.
