Tu Liangchuan,Wu Yanhao: “The Eighteenth Brumaire” of Donald Trump: Class Contradictions and the Crisis of Capitalism Behind the of “Make America Great Again” Narrative
     Release time: 2025-12-02

Trumps re-election is no accidental phenomenon within capitalist democratic politics but rather a product of the inherent contradictions of capitalism under the crisis of neoliberalism. Through the lens of historical materialism in Marxs The Eighteenth Brumaire of Louis Bonaparte, we can gain a critical understanding of the rise of US right-wing populism as represented by Trump. The narrative of Make America Great Again (MAGA) serves as a tool of legitimacy, playing a significant role in the rise of the Trump groupTrump uses this narrative to stitch together various interest demands, construct an electoral alliance of workers and monopoly capitalists, and on that basisconceal the class-rule logic in restructuring interests and reproducing order. The American working class can only achieve true liberation by breaking free from the illusion of the MAGA narrative, recognizing the nature of capital first behind the claim of America first, and turning towards a class revolution aimed at transforming the existing relations of production.
