The proposition that “‘the second combination’ is another liberation of thought”  is aimed at the problem of “theoretical liberation has been basically achieved, but deep ideological concepts have not yet been truly liberated”. To grasp the meaning of ideological liberation of “the second combination”, the concepts required to be established should include: traditional is not all non modern and pre modern, excellent traditional culture must be modern, Marxism has become a part of Chinese culture, and contemporary Chinese Marxism has become the essence of the times of Chinese culture and Chinese spirit. As the guiding ideology of the CPC and China, Marxism should be understood as a thought that contains the excellent traditional Chinese culture and integrates the advanced theories and achievements of advanced civilization at all times and in all countries. The combination of the basic principles of Marxism with excellent traditional Chinese culture requires both similarities and differences. The method of combination is “inheritance,” “reference,”and “creation.” The purpose of combination is to promote the advancement of the guiding ideology of the Party and the state with the times, and to create new cultural, theoretical, and institutional achievements that meet the requirements of the times and future trends.
