Abstract
Xi Jinping has emphasized that “Philosophy and social sciences function as essential implements for humanity to apprehend and remold the world. They represent eminent forces driving the trajectory of historical development and social progress, and the extent of their development mirrors a nation’s thinking capacity, spiritual ethos and civilizational quality, signifying a country’s comprehensive national strength and international competitiveness” (Xi Jinping, 2016, 2). To improve the international promotion of Chinese Marxism and the development of Marxism in the 21st century, an international forum was held on June 21-23, 2024. The forum was hosted by Northwestern Polytechnical University, in Xi’an, China. The theme was as follows: “International Academic Forum on the Development and Innovation of Marxism in Chinese and International Social Sciences and the Launch Seminar of the International English-Language Journal World Marxist Review.” The forum was jointly organized by: the Discipline Construction Office of Northwestern Polytechnical University; the Innovative Marxism Research Branch of the World Association of Political Economy; the Organizing Committee of the Chinese Forum on Innovative Marxism; the School of Marxism of Northwestern Polytechnical University; and the “The Research Center for Innovative Marxism and Development” of the Shaanxi (University) Key Research Base for Philosophy and Social Sciences. The participants all affirmed that, as a comprehensive academic theoretical journal reflecting global research on innovative Marxist theories, the establishment of World Marxist Review is of great significance for publishing the most recent achievements in Marxist research domestically and internationally. The journal enhances the international academic discourse authority of Marxism, and advances the international communication and interaction of contemporary Marxism. Simultaneously, it presents a crucial international academic platform, enabling scholars from many countries to embark on academic exchanges and dialogues related to Chinese and international Marxism and facilitate the advancement of social sciences worldwide. Nearly 200 domestic and foreign experts and scholars, university teachers and students from countries including the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Australia, Italy and Turkey participated in extensive and in-depth deliberations centered on the theme of the “Development and Innovation of Marxism in the Social Sciences in China and Abroad.”
