Mao Zedong’s youth came at a time when China was in internal and external trouble and the nation was in peril. Witnessing the social realities of famine, war and the suffering of the people, and being influenced by both China’s fine traditional culture and the new knowledge from the new learning, he underwent a tumultuous and challenging journey of study and life to seek the truth for saving the country and its people through relentless exploration. It was through this process that Mao Zedong developed his courageous character, his aspiration to save the nation and its people, his attitude towards life of constant self-improvement, his sense of self-fulfillment, and his belief in Marxism. Studying and exploring the life outlook of young Mao Zedong holds significant contemporary implications for educating and guiding the new generation of youth in the new era to navigate their life paths successfully.
