Engels’ positioning of his “second violin” inspires us to look for the “string quartet” in the development of Marxism. The role of Engels as the “second violin” makes the expression of Marx’s theme melody as the first violin become enrich and plump. Linchen was the laborers of household chores and the supporter of revolution who firmly believe in Marxism. This character image can be interpreted by the musical image of “viola”. Jenny’s uncompromising honesty love for Marx, unswerving pursuit of revolutionary ideals, sparing no effort to support the revolutionary cause and unswerving belief in communism are very similar to the role of “cello” in the string quartet.
