People’s democracy is the life of socialism and the hallmark of the socialist political system with Chinese characteristics. The new political party system showcases the essential attribute of people’s democracy in three dimensions, namely, historical logic, practical foundation and form of practice. First, it undertakes the political mission from “national salvation” to “national rejuvenation” and completes the building of a sovereign state with the unification of all ethnic groups. Second, it is rooted in the economic foundation, political system and cultural traditions, and stimulates internal motivation to serve the people. Third, it serves the institutional function of representing and responding to public opinion and being accountable to the people through cooperative and participatory structural relations; therefore, it safeguards the people’s status as masters of the country in substance rather than merely in form, laying the political and institutional foundation for China’s long-term stability and creating a new form of political civilization for humanity with vigorous vitality.
